Mount Kilimanjaro Day Hike Overview

Is it possible to one day hike Kilimanjaro? Yes, the day hike to Kilimanjaro takes you up to Mandara Hut and back to the entrance gate. On this Mount Kilimanjaro day hike, you will hike up the Marangu Route to Mandara Hut for lunch. You will NOT reach the top. All short treks are offered on a private basis and can be started any day of the year. Marangu is home to black-and-white colobus monkeys living in the branches of tropical trees growing along the trail.

Mount Kilimanjaro Day Hike Itinerary

You will be picked up in the morning at your hotel in Arusha or Moshi and taken to the Kilimanjaro National Park (Marangu Gate, 1860m). The drive will take approximately 2 hours. Once the necessary gate registration is completed, your trek will begin by hiking through the dense rainforest.

Alongside impressive vegetation, you will catch a glimpse of black and white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and various bird species. Our knowledgeable guide will inform you about Kilimanjaro and will explain the different species of plants and animals you will see.

After a 3-4 hour hike, you will reach Mandara Hut (2700m), where you will have a well-earned rest and lunch, followed by a short hike (15 minutes walk) to the Maundi Crater, to enjoy wonderful views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Northern Tanzania, and Kenya. Later you will return to the Marangu Gate (2-3 hours walk), where your vehicle will be waiting for your transfer back to your hotel. On the way back you can enjoy the sunset and the day‘s memories.
